The SCASD curriculum staff have long held that the problem with “Investigations” in the District has been one of failing to educate parents, rather than a problem with the curriculum itself. To address this, they began having “math nights” last winter and spring at the individual elementary schools. Plans for a District-wide Math Night were announced at the September 14 Board meeting and it appears on the SCASD calendar:
District Parent Math Night
Who: All parents of SCASD elementary students
What: An overview of the math curriculum and an exploration of algebra content from K-12
When: Thursday, October 15, 2009 @ 7:00
Where: Mount Nittany Middle School Cafeteria, 656 Brandywine Dr.
Why: To acquaint parents with the math program and provide suggestions for ways to help at home
It’s strange that this isn’t advertised on the SCASD K-6 Math web site. Our family didn’t receive a notice about Math Night – did anyone else’s?
UPDATE: Ask and ye shall receive — “Math Night” is now advertised on the SCASD K-6 Math site.

No. I didn’t know about it until you mentioned it! Thanks Steve!
Yes, ‘our’ kindergarten class got a note home yesterday.
