Five candidates for four SCASD Board of Directors slots doesn’t leave room for a lot of choice in today’s election. You won’t find any candidate endorsements here, but you can find the candidates’ positions on the K-8 math curriculum issue here. The CDT sums up their positions on several issues, including math, here.
In some other districts where constructivist programs like “Investigations” have been discarded, candidates have been recruited by anti-constructivist parent groups and elected to school boards. In 2011, there will be another Board election with five seats at stake, but only three of the potential incumbent candidates voted against the purchase of the second edition of “Investigations” in June. Being on the Board is a terrifically important duty but requires a substantial time commitment and pays nothing. Any takers?
